Hairdo's we love

Thought you all might get a kick out of these. Happy New Year! And to many happy hair do's.

We have plenty to choose from, but my all time favorite has to be the mullet family.

I thought the 80's deserved a post all their own, stay tuned for that later!

The Beatle Do.

Is little Lucy here a beatle, or a hamill?

I little post on irony for Kit...

Kit, these are the best examples I have found online. Sorry it took me so long to reply! I always think of the Alanis Morisette song. This is addressed below. Irony: He died in the "living" room. Oxymoron: "Jumbo" shrimp. At least I think that's it! This is cornfusing....confusing...oh help!

verbal irony (often sarcasm) - when what is said it the opposite of what is meant. Example: "Nice shirt." when you hate the shirt.

dramatic irony - when the audience knows something important that the character doesn't. Example: In "Oedipus Rex", the audience knows Oedipus' past, but he doesn't.

situation irony - when an example of a situation is the opposite of what is expected. Examples: a lifeguard drowns, a policeman is arrested, a fire station burns down.

The only ironic part of Alanis Morrisette's song "Ironic" is that NOTHING in the song is actually ironic (situational irony - with a title like that, you'd expect many examples of irony instead of none).

"A black fly in your Chardonnay"
"Rain on your wedding day"
"A free ride, when you've already paid"

As a friend of mine once said, "Alanis, these things aren't ironic; they just SUCK!"

H. W. Fowler, in Modern English Usage, had this to say of irony:

Irony is a form of utterance that postulates a double audience, consisting of one party that hearing shall hear and shall not understand, and another party that, when more is meant than meets the ear, is aware, both of that “more” and of the outsider’s incomprehension.

Irony has some of its foundation in the onlooker’s perception of paradox. In June 2005, the State of Virginia Employment Agency, which handles unemployment compensation, announced that they would lay off 400 employees for lack of work because unemployment is so low in the state. The reader’s perception of a disconnection between common expectation, and the application of logic with an unexpected outcome, both has an element of irony in it and shows the connection between irony and humor, when the surprise startles us into laughter. Not all irony is humorous: “grim irony” and “stark irony” are familiar.

Just in case anyone needs this today!

Great blog post by David Wilkerson!

Whenever opposition arises, God’s grace thrives in us. Think about what happens to a tree when a great storm beats violently against it. The wind threatens to uproot the tree and carry it away. It breaks off branches and blows away its leaves. It loosens its roots and blows off its buds. And when the storm is over, things look hopeless.

Yet, look closer; the same storm that opened crevices in the earth around the trunk of the tree has helped the roots go deeper. The tree now has access to new, deeper sources of nutrition and water. And it has been purged of all its dead branches. The buds may be gone, but others will grow back more fully. I tell you, that tree is now stronger, growing in unseen ways. And just wait till harvest—because it’s going to bear much fruit!

Maybe you’re in a storm right now. The wind is blowing hard, shaking you violently, and you think you’re going down. Beloved, don’t panic! You’ve got to know that in the midst of the tempest, you are putting down deep spiritual roots. God is developing in you a deepening humility, a greater mourning and sorrow for sin, a heightened hunger for his righteousness.

God is making you a seasoned soldier of the cross—battle-scarred, but battle-smart and courageous. You may get down on yourself at times—but the Lord never does. The fact is, he could have acted sovereignly at any time to pluck you out of your struggle. But he didn’t—because he saw it producing in you a greater thirst for him!

Romans 5:3 says, “Tribulation worketh patience.” The word worketh means “to accomplish.”

In 2 Corinthians 4:17 we read, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” The word worketh in this verse is the same as in Romans 5:3.

Mexico and the poo poo palace...

Here here are a few pics of the Mexico missions trip, minus the bugs. But I included a lovely photo of us trim and beautfil girls in front of our cabin. (joking, wow did we eat everything in Mexico or what?) I am glad to say I lost about 16 pounds from puking after this photo was taken. See God does work all things for our good! lol

Our cabin was beside all of the farm animals, hence they pooped everywhere. We had horse, donkey, chicken, dog and sheep poop on our luggage, shoes, well just about darn near everwhere. I got home, went to walmart and stepped in dog poop on the parking lot, it followed me! No more poo! When we were coming home, we were in Houston and I was getting the luggage for one of the girls. I yelled across the room, "which bag is your's Shelly, and she yelled back "The one with the Donkey @&*%$#! all over it" I cracked up! And check out the groovy boots on a guy in front of us on the plane. Those were all the rage, the louder the better. I saw them everywhere!

Anyway all of our bug comments had me, well not really missing it but remembering these beautiful kids and the precious people of Mexico.

This is Mano de Ayuda. "Helping hands" which is an orphange in Ario de Rosales. We had bonfires at night near this cross and sang and worshipped. Amazing!

Vain Labor

As we prepare to start a new workweek I find that I need a new, fresh attitude. Cleaning up and packing away my Christmas stuff, as well as my office is quite an undertaking. I must take inventory of all the stuff I need to keep and throw out the accumulated junk. I dread this, but I know I need to do it. I want to start this week, and this new year with a renewed sense of who I am in Christ, and a joy in living that I have not yet experienced (or even dared to pursue). I think I may be on this topic for a few weeks, so be forewarned! Not new years resolutions, but honor and glory to our Lord for a new chance and a new year. Now getting back to going to work tomorrow. I used to look forward to it, and now I am trying to figure out if I need a new job or a new attitude? Anyone else understand this one? I am happy that I am employed and I need to be grateful and understand that all of my work done in honesty and with the right mindset honors God. Love you all and bless you in your workweek, and blessing and prayers to those of you looking for a job. God will bless you and honor your prayers, he loves you and hears you. Tomorrow is a new day and his mercies are new every morning! Love you all, Mrs Bucket.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Proverbs 13:11

A successful actress had made millions on her looks alone. Her face had graced the pages of a hundred ads, and she appeared on television and in movies regularly. She received as much as sixty thousand dollars for an episode of a regular series on television. Everything seemed to be going well until an accident scarred her, and she was no longer in demand. Though she had made millions, she spent millions just as fast. She left acting a poor and bitter woman.

We often envy the life of stars. We believe that they have everything a person could want and that their lives are somehow magical. There is magic in the lives of stars, but it is not all good. Some of the magic is "here today, gone tomorrow". Nothing is permanent, and the big money they make is gone with nothing to show for it.

It is good to be satisfied with what we receive for the labors we pursue. What we receive as wages for the work we do is money well received and deserved. WE can be proud of the fact that we work hard for our money. It is right that we should receive gain for the effort we put forth. God rewards those who are steadfast in their labors. Those who receive wealth for their vanities have already received their reward.

Prayer: Make me steadfast in my endeavors, O LORD. Keep my eyes set on my labors, and bless all my efforts. Let me feel the joy and contentment that honest labor brings, almighty God. Amen.

AND YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS

BY ANDREW MURRAY

The simplicity of trusting God is the key!

"Come unto me, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; and ye shall find rest to your souls -MATT.11:28-29

REST for the soul: Such was the first promise with which the Saviour sought to win the heavy-laden sinner. Simple though it appears, the promise is indeed as large and comprehensive as can be found. Rest for the soul--does it not imply deliverance from every fear, the supply of every want, the fulfilment of every desire? And now nothing less than this is the prize with which the Saviour woos back the wandering one--who is mourning that the rest has not been so abiding or so full as it had hoped--to come back and abide in Him. Nothing but this was the reason that the rest has either not been found, or, if found, has been disturbed or lost again: you did not abide with, you did not abide in Him.

Have you ever noticed how, in the original invitation of the Saviour to come to Him, the promise of rest was repeated twice, with such a variation in the conditions as might have suggested that abiding rest could only be found in abiding nearness. First the Saviour says, "Come unto me, and I will give you rest"; the very moment you come, and believe, I will give you rest--the rest of pardon and acceptance--the rest in my love. But we know that all that God bestows needs time to become fully our own; it must be held fast, and appropriated, and assimilated into our inmost being; without this not even Christ's giving can make it our very own,in full experience and enjoyment. And so the Saviour repeats His promise, in words which clearly speak not so much of the initial rest with which He welcomes the weary one who comes, but of the deeper and personally appropriated rest of the soul that abides with Him. He now not only says, "Come unto me," but "Take my yoke upon you and learn of me"; become my scholars, yield ourselves to my training, submit in all things to my will, let your whole life be one with mine--in other words, Abide in me. And then He adds, not only, "I will give," but "ye shall find rest to your souls." The rest He gave at coming will become something you have really found and made your very own--the deeper the abiding rest which comes from longer acquaintance and closer fellowship, from entire surrender and deeper sympathy. "Take my yoke, and learn of me," "Abide in me"--this is the path to abiding rest.

Do not these words of the Saviour discover what you have perhaps often sought in vain to know, how it is that the rest you at times enjoy is so often lost. It must have been this: you had not understood how entire surrender to Jesus is the secret of perfect rest. Giving up one's whole life to Him, for Him alone to rule and order it; taking up His yoke, and submitting to be led and taught, to learn of Him; abiding in Him, to be and do only what He wills--these are the conditions of discipleship without which there can be no thought of maintaining the rest that was bestowed on first coming to Christ. The rest is in Christ, and not something He gives apart from Himself, and so it is only in having Him that the rest can really be kept and enjoyed.

It is because so many a young believer fails to lay hold of this truth that the rest so speedily passes away. With some it is that they really did not know; they were never taught how Jesus claims the undivided allegiance of the whole heart and life; how there is not a spot in the whole of life over which He does not wish to reign; how in the very least things His disciples must only seek to please Him. They did not know how entire the consecration was that Jesus claimed. With others, who had some idea of what a very holy life a Christian ought to lead, the mistake was a different one: they could not believe such a life to be a possible attainment. Taking, and bearing, and never for a moment laying aside the yoke of Jesus, appeared to them to require such a strain of effort, and such an amount of goodness, as to be altogether beyond their reach. The very idea of always, all the day, abiding in Jesus, was too high--something they might attain to after a life of holiness and growth, but certainly not what a feeble beginner was to start with. They did not know how, when Jesus said, "My yoke is easy," He spoke the truth; how just the yoke gives the rest, because the moment the soul yields itself to obey, the Lord Himself gives the strength and joy to do it. They did not notice how, when He said, "Learn of me," He added, "I am meek and lowly in heart," to assure them that His gentleness would meet their every need, and bear them as a mother bears her feeble child. Oh, they did not know that when He said, "Abide in me," He only asked the surrender to Himself, His almighty love would hold them fast, and keep and bless them. And so, as some had erred from the want of full consecration, so these failed because they did not fully trust. These two, consecration and faith, are the essential elements of the Christian life--the giving up all to Jesus, the receiving all from Jesus. They are implied in each other; they are united in the one word--surrender. A full surrender is to obey as well as to trust, to trust as well as to obey.

With such misunderstanding at the outset, it is no wonder that the disciple life was not one of such joy or strength as had been hoped. In some things you were led into sin without knowing it, because you had not learned how wholly Jesus wanted to rule you, and how you could not keep right for a moment unless you had Him very near you. In other things you knew what sin was, but had not the power to conquer, because you did not know or believe how entirely Jesus would take charge of you to keep and to help you. Either way, it was not long before the bright joy of your first love was lost, and your path, instead of being like the path of the just, shining more and more unto the perfect day, became like Israel's wandering in the desert--ever on the way, never very far, and yet always coming short of the promised rest. Weary soul, since so many years driven to and fro like the panting hart, O come and learn this day the lesson that there is a spot where safety and victory, where peace and rest, are always sure, and that that spot is always open to thee--the heart of Jesus.

But, alas! I hear someone say, it is just this abiding in Jesus, always bearing His yoke, to learn of Him, that is so difficult, and the very effort to attain to this often disturbs the rest even more than sin or the world. What a mistake to speak thus, and yet how often the words are heard! Does it weary the traveller to rest in the house or on the bed where he seeks repose from his fatigue? Or is it a labour to a little child to rest in its mother's arms? Is it not the house that keeps the traveller within its shelter? do not the arms of the mother sustain and keep the little one? And so it is with Jesus. The soul has but to yield itself to Him, to be still and rest in the confidence that His love has undertaken, and that His faithfulness will perform, the work of keeping it safe in the shelter of His bosom. Oh, it is because the blessing is so great that our little hearts cannot rise to apprehend it; it is as if we cannot believe that Christ, the Almighty One, will in very deed teach and keep us all the day. And yet this is just what He has promised, for without this He cannot really give us rest. It is as our heart takes in this truth that, when He says, "Abide in me," "Learn of me," He really means it, and that it is His own work to keep us abiding when we yield ourselves to Him, that we shall venture to cast ourselves into the arms of His love, and abandon ourselves to His blessed keeping. It is not the yoke, but resistance to the yoke, that makes the difficulty; the whole-hearted surrender to Jesus, as at once our Master and our Keeper, finds and secures the rest.

Come, my brother, and let us this very day commence to accept the word of Jesus in all simplicity. It is a distinct command this: "Take my yoke, and learn of me, " "Abide in me. " A command has to be obeyed. The obedient scholar asks no questions about possibilities or results; he accepts every order in the confidence that his teacher has provided for all that is needed. The power and the perseverance to abide in the rest, and the blessing in abiding--it belongs to the Saviour to see to this; 'tis mine to obey, 'tis His to provide. Let us this day in immediate obedience accept the command, and answer boldly, "Saviour, I abide in Thee. At Thy bidding I take Thy yoke; I undertake the duty without delay; I abide in Thee." Let each consciousness of failure only give new urgency to the command, and teach us to listen more earnestly than ever till the Spirit again give us to hear the voice of Jesus saying, with a love and authority that inspire both hope and obedience, "Child, abide in me." That word, listened to as coming from Himself, will be an end of all doubting--a divine promise of what shall surely be granted. And with ever-increasing simplicity its meaning will be interpreted. Abiding in Jesus is nothing but the giving up of oneself to be ruled and taught and led, and so resting in the arms of Everlasting Love.

Blessed rest! the fruit and the foretaste and the fellowship of God's own rest! found of them who thus come to Jesus to abide in Him. It is the peace of God, the great calm of the eternal world, that passeth all understanding, and that keeps the heart and mind. With this grace secured, we have strength for every duty, courage for every struggle, a blessing in every cross, and the joy of life eternal in death itself.

O my Saviour! if ever my heart should doubt or fear again, as if the blessing were too great to expect, or too high to attain, let me hear Thy voice to quicken my faith and obedience: "Abide in me"; "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; ye shall find rest to your souls."

The Revelation of Gods Love

Imagine, as I was going on below about how much God loves us all so much, I find this right under my nose on our links to other blogs.

Merry Christmas everyone!

THE REVELATION OF GOD’S LOVE

I was stirred recently by the Holy Spirit and he led me to this passage: “Ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 20–21). As I read these verses, I heard the Spirit whisper to me: “David, you’ve never yet come into the fullness and joy of my love. You have the theology right—but you haven’t yet experienced the ecstasy and rest of keeping yourself in my love. Up to now, you’ve only been in it up to your ankles. But there’s a whole ocean of my love for you to swim in.”

The Bible is filled with the truth of God’s love. But at times I allow myself to wonder how the Lord could ever love me. It’s not that I doubt his love; it’s more a failure on my part to keep myself in the knowledge and assurance of his love to me.

The revelation of God’s love comes in part when we are born again. If you were to ask most Christians what they know of God’s love for them, they’d answer, “I know God loves me because he gave his Son to die for me.” They would quote John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

It’s a wonderful moment when you grasp this truth. You suddenly realize, “God loved me when I was lost, undone, a stranger. And he proved his love for me by sacrificing his own Son on my behalf.”

Few Christians, however, learn how to be kept in God’s love. We know something of our love toward the Lord—but we seldom seek the revelation of God’s love for us. In fact, if you were to ask most Christians to find biblical passages on God’s love for us, they could point to only a few. Yet, understanding the love of God is the secret to an overcoming life. Multitudes grow spiritually cold and lazy because they’re ignorant of the Lord’s love for them. They don’t know that their greatest weapon against Satan’s attacks is to be fully convinced of God’s love for them, through the revelation of the Holy Ghost.

In his final prayer on earth, Jesus said, “Father…thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world” (John 17:24). What an incredible thought; Christ was greatly loved by the Father before creation.

Then Jesus prayed this remarkable prayer. “Thou, Father…hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (vv. 21, 23). He also prayed, “That the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them” (v. 26). Christ was saying, “Father, I know you’re going to love those I bring into my body, just the way you’ve loved me.”

The implication here is that when the Father loved Jesus before eternity, he loved us too. Indeed, when man was still only a thought in God’s eternal mind, the Lord was already numbering our parts and planning our redemption: “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love” (Ephesians 1:4).

How long has God loved you? He’s loved you since he has existed—because God is love. It is his very nature. He loved you as a sinner. He loved you in the womb. He loved you before the world began. There was no beginning to his love for you—and there is no end to it.

When will God stop loving you? He’ll stop loving you when he stops loving his own Son—which is impossible. Christ says, “The Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end” (John 13:1).

Merry Christmas from the Buckets

Hey brothers and sisters!!!

I want to pop in (or poop in like Kit) and say MERRY CHRISTMAS! I love you all so very very much, all of you guys are indeed my Christmas presents, and the best ones I ever had honestly.

OK I am so sorry it's been a crazy week. I had to reboot the computer again Sunday morning, then Sunday night the power went out until 6:00 am Monday morning. So then on Monday I am trying to get home from work but I have been praying and praying for an extra 50 bucks just to buy some groceries and well honestly soap and toothpaste after all the bills are paid. I sat in my office and thought about how hanging on PJ's blog really did my faith factor in. It did much to open my eyes to truth, but it caused me to question sooooo much. Number 1 am a a smart enough, good enough or correct enough Christian? Yadda yadda yadda, but what suffered the most was my faith in my Father and what he can do. I just sat and apologized to him for letting Scratch steal my joy and belief and I said Lord, I know people have really really big problems, mine are nothing. But I am your child and I would really like it if someone would give me a 50.00 Walmart gift card like we used to get for Christmas here at work. I prayed exactly twice and I thanked him for it and my new computer that I will be able to buy, for all of you and for my little Momma. I planned on coming home from work early but when I went back to my main office at around 2:00 pm my neighbor had called me. in six years she has called me one time. I called her back thinking some horrible thing had happened, but she said "I know this sounds really wierd, but the Lord has laid on my heart to take you to Walmart and let you buy 50.00 worth of groceries and things you need. Do not tell him no, I know how you are. ) I nearly fainted! So I got out of work around 5:30 and took her shopping. Guys, he cares about us so much! Even these little things. I know this is so silly, but I have not been able to afford alot of things lately that I feel are not needs. I don't buy much fruit, milk or cereal. I love cereal! Like you all know I am sure, when we don't have these things we don't dwell on them, we just keep praising God for the things we do have! I had not let myself think about this stuff at all. So here I am in Walmart, in the cereal aisle, holding my box of Kashi crying like a baby! I am so embarrassed! I am crying now just typing it. I never even realized how much I limit God...I am so happy, not for the stupid cereal or my precious, obedient neighbor but for him coming down here for us. I love him so much!

I have battled depression since I was a kid too, and suicide is always the devils option out for me. He temps me with it at least once a month. Girls, I honestly say to you this gets better as we walk with Christ. I am CONVINCED that nothing can seperate me from the love of Jesus! No Powers! No demons of hell! NOTHING!

Lucy I am confused about this issue too but what you guys said about it all makes so much sense, God knows what is in our hearts and he knows what we can stand. I know with me that smoking, drinking, drugs all of it was some form of self destruction, maybe not as immediate but the same path I was on, suicide was just a quicker means to the same end for me. We think we are coping, but we are being tempted and tried. Paul was tempted too and he suffered depression greatly. I know personally fighting the battle with God is sooo much better than ever giving up, and it's better than being numb with medication, I do in no way put anyone down for being on medication. It saves lives, but for me the battle between my ears as FOM said so well is worth it even if I end up a little bruised and battered sometimes. God will always comfort us if we ask him! I have a great post I will put up tonight by Andrew Murray that really spoke to me about all of this. Look for it when you have time, I hope it will help you.

Anyway I have to run off to work, again but I love you all so much and I thank Jesus he gave us all each other! Reformed, I have been chomping at the bit wanting to defend you at Sola Dei Gloria! I am shoutin amen! Amen! And I have no problems jumping in and going at it, but God has restrained me. I know I needed to learn how to keep my fleshly mouth shut, and I guess you needed to speak your truth to people, without any help from me! I am so proud to call you my brother in Christ! Kari, Kit,Lisa you girls are the best! And sock monkeys are my favorite! I even have one hanging on the rearview mirror of my car. How funny and alike we all are. Kari, you are my little speckled pupster. Keep that chin up! I pray for you everyday with your family situation, God loves you guys so much. Kit how awesome that you got a good eval on your job, praise Jesus. Lisa, bubbles and love sweet sister! I pray that your husband finds a wonderful Job soon. And FOM and Lucy, you guys well you know how much I love you both!
"
Maybe we are all one strange family, seperated at birth. Lord, what were you thinking? We will be in Heaven talking about the goofiest things! And who else would have Onslo in his dreadful t-shirt dreaming of beer for a Christmas post. Only us.

Love you all and have a wonderful Christmas!

That Bucket Woman...

Happy Birthday Lisa!

Birthday wishes to Lisa today! I hope it's wonderful. You share it with my Mom who is 85 years young today. I hope God blesses you both greatly today and in the coming new year. I love you Lisa. I hope the poem below is a blessing to you today.

Here is a photo of my Mom and family (and me with big ole Texas style hair) at my Dad's last birthday party. Say a little prayer for her today, we will be having a birthday party for her at the nursing home today at 2:00, she is very excited!

A Birthday Wish for You!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue
I'm writing this birthday
Poem just for you.

It seems that on birthdays,
Most women are sad.
They dread and complain,
As though it were bad.

Instead of the joy
Of the life that they live,
They wish to be younger,
And back with the kids.

As though going back
Would be better somehow.
Some dream to be there
Instead of where they are now.

So I've done some prayin',
Of what I could do;
To say that I Love You!
Here's my birthday wish for you.

I wish you the joy
That another year brings.
The good health of our family.
That's not a small thing.

I wish you the knowledge
That your daughters know;
Mom's love will always warm them,
Through rain or through snow.

They go to bed knowing
That they're in your prayers;
And times that they need you,
You'll always be there.

I wish you a husband
Who tries harder each day;
To make your life better
And happier someway.

Who tries to be loving,
More understanding, and kind;
More giving, less selfish,
And less like a behind.

But for all of my wishing,
And good things I crave.
There's a better wish to make
For your special day.

I wish you the love
That only Christ brings.
To be holding your hand
Weather you cry or you sing.

I wish you the love
Only salvation knows.
To know He is with you
Wherever you go.

I wish you His presence
In times I'm not there.
He'll always be with you
With love and with care.

I wish you God's blessings
That He want to give;
And that I can't give you
No matter how long I live.

I wish God to bless you
With wisdom to see;
The blessings He's given
Through your love to me.

I don't know the reason,
I don't know the rhyme;
But some of God's richest blessings
Come only with time.

The youth often miss them.
These blessings refine;
Grow sweeter and sweeter
With love and with time.

So lift your heart with us,
And your birth celebrate.
God's blessings will come
To his children who wait.

So please don't be saddened,
And please don't be blue.
Know that your special,
And I'll always love you.

And know on your Birthday,
I lift you in prayer.
For God's richest blessings
And eternal care.

Chipper

I wanted to tell you that the picture of the dog is "Chipper" and he is no longer with us. Unfortunately he liked to sneak out of the house and make us chase him and the one day he darted out the door and I couldn't catch him. I found his body about a mile from our house 2 days later on the side of the road. He got hit by a car and it killed him. I picked him up and we put him to rest. But, he was our pupper and the kids love to look at pictures of him so I thought I'd include the picture. Hopefully we'll get another one sometime in the near future. I'm thinking Rottweiler but the Mrs. wants a lap dog. If you need any explanations of any of the other pix just let me know and I'll tell you the specifics. God bless...

Not a slave anymore

This was sent to me by FOM.

In your mind go back in time about 150 years to the days before the Civil War. Imagine you are visiting one of the great cities of the South like Savannah, Atlanta, Birmingham, Jackson or New Orleans. As you approach the center of town you hear a commotion as a crowd gathers for a public auction and you gather round to watch the proceedings. The first thing you notice in the crowd is an uncouth, foulmouthed, loud, boisterous man who you know, by reputation only, as the meanest, cruelest, most hateful man around.

You also notice in the crowd another man who stands out for his dignity, genteel mannerisms and soft-spoken tone, and recognize him also by reputation as a most kind, gentle, and gracious man. Both men, along with the crowd wait for the auction to begin.

Finally the auctioneer steps to the podium and begins rattling his words as the first item to be sold is brought to the auction block. There before you is a beautiful young black girl, about 20 years of age. Her dress is old and torn, but remarkably clean. She is obviously filled with anxiety and fear as the bidding begins.

From the outset the loud obnoxious man seemed to have his evil, lecherous eyes set on this lovely, innocent, young lady. She obviously knew of his reputation and cringed in fear as he opened the bidding.

When the kind gentleman saw her fear, he too placed a bid. Soon only these two men were involved in the bidding as the price of the girl rose higher and higher. Finally the evil man bowed out of the bidding when he realized that the price of the girl was more than he was willing to pay.

When the auctioneer closed the bidding the kind gentleman paid the price for his purchase, was handed the Bill-of-Sale and turned to leave. The young girl started to follow her new master.
He then turned to her and asked, "Where are you going?" "Why, I’m going with you," she responded; "You bought me and I belong to you." "O! You misunderstood," the man said, "I didn’t buy you to make you my slave, I bought you to set you free."
Then he took the Bill-of-Sale and wrote across in big block letters – FREE! – signed his name and gave it to the girl.

"I don’t understand," the girl said. "You mean I am FREE!" "Yes, you are FREE!" ‘I can go wherever I want and do as I please." "Exactly, You are FREE!"
"Mister, I don’t know who you are, but no one has ever shown such love and kindness to me. If I am free to do as I please, nothing would please me more than to go with you and serve you till the day I die."
And that day she went home with Abraham Lincoln, not as his slave, but as his willing servant.

While the story may be true, my guess is that it is an allegory. But doesn’t it aptly illustrate the great doctrine of Redemption! It tells the story of our slavery to Satan and sin; the cruel intentions of the enemy of our soul; and the gracious purchase, at an incredible price, by Jesus; not to make us his slave, but to set us free. How could we respond in any other way than to say, "If you love me that much, I’ll serve you forever, as I remain a slave to your grace and no longer a prisoner of my own captivity."

Ephesians 1:6-8 (New Living Translation)

6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.[a] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

The Lisa Family

Hey everyone, here is Lisa and her gorgeous family. I just have to say Lisa you are as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. And your children and husband are adorable too.

We love you and I hope you have the most wonderful birthday ever! God bless you

That worm eatin bucket woman.

Our buddies

This is one of my (Lucy here) cardinals, they come to my yard in flocks, it is a long story I will have to write a post about it one day.

This is Lucy's dog princess after she got shaved and the cat hissed at her for 3 weeks because she didn't like her new do. Don't pay any attention to the pop cans under the furniture in the kitchen.

This is Lucy's pride and joy Daphne aka "Daffy Doo" yes Lucy has a doo too! She is mean, she wont' let anyone love her she just likes to lick people. I wonder if she likes licking sidewalks?

Hey yall.

Thought you might like to share pics of your favorite pals? Shoot us an email and we can post them for you. p.sistas@gmail.com

Here are a few of my buddies. The big grey boy is Dink. The neighbor's left him when they moved, but funny story I had already kidnapped him anyway. The little kitten was a stray that showed up on Halloween, her name was Coco and she was adopted by a very sweet little girl named Claire. The black and white boy is Oreo, he ran away about a year ago. I have a dog named Ozzie that I gave to my Mom and would love to post a few of him too sometime. I love these critters!

Love and Hate by David Wilkerson

“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:26).

The Greek word for hate means “to love less by comparison.” Jesus is calling us to have a love for him that is so all-inclusive, fervent and absolute that all our earthly affections cannot come close.

Think about it: Do we know what it is like to come into his sweet presence and ask nothing? To reach out to him only because we are grateful that he loves us so completely?

We have become selfish and self-centered in our prayers: “Give us…meet us…bless us…use us…protect us.” All this may be scriptural, but the focus remains on us. Even our work for the Lord has become selfish. We want him to bless our service to him, so we can know our faith is genuine. The Lord is more interested in what we are becoming in him than in what we are doing for him.

Someone reading this may be hurting because doors of ministry have closed. He or she may feel “put on the shelf.” Someone else may think he would be more useful to the Lord on some needy mission field. But I say we cannot be more useful to the Lord than when we minister love to him in the secret closet of prayer. When we seek the Lord, when we search his Word endlessly to know him, then we are at the peak of our usefulness. We do more to bless and satisfy God by being shut up with him in loving communication than by doing anything else. Whatever work he might open up for us to do, at home or abroad, will flow effortlessly out of our communion with him. He is more interested in winning our whole hearts than in our winning the world for him.

This is not to demean fervent soul-winning labors, but to state that all Spirit-blessed evangelism is birthed in communion. The witness who is often with the Lord in prayer will be given the wisdom, the Holy Ghost timing, and the power to do the will of God.

Goodnight prayer from Lucy

You know I was thinking this evening about how God works. Isn't it amazing that out of that Lakeland whatever it was God put a group of people together that have so much in common, that laugh at the same things, and that can minister to one another through a screen and a keyboard. He really took that whole thing and worked it for his good. I am really amazed by him that he used that Lakeland movement to bring us all together.

I thank You Father for all of my blog brothers and sisters tonight. I pray that you will protect them as they sleep tonight, that they would have peaceful sleep. I pray that you would be with each of them as they start their day in the morning and that they would glorify you in all that they do. I pray that you would meet every need Father for you know what those needs are, I pray that you would ease any pains, hurts or fears. I pray that you would protect each one of them and their precious families Lord, cover them with your mighty wings. Lead them and guide them in the way of everlasting Lord. In Jesus holy name Amen.

goodnight!
Lucy

The Shelter of the Most High

Isaiah 4:2-6
The Branch of the Lord

2 In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. 3 Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. 5 Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. Main point
Refuge in God
Slums and shanty towns sometimes have to be cleared completely to get rid of the rotten, rat- and lice-infested buildings and materials, and to prevent recurrence of disease. In the same way, God would use fire as a means of cleansing and purifying (v 4).

In these verses, Isaiah interrupts his terrifying message of judgement from God to bring words of hope. Those who survive the fiery judgement will live peaceful and prosperous lives. God’s protection will be over them at all times.

We too have a refuge in God through his Son, Jesus. His hand of protection is over us, whether we are in difficult situations at work, college, home or in relationships.

However, his protection does not mean our lives will be devoid of all hardship. Work still has to be done (v 2), and our pleasures and recreation are likely to be simple and homespun, avoiding the traps of wealth, ostentation and conceit.

We found out that the Lord is fearsome, marvellous and glorious in Isaiah 2:19, but we see today that he is merciful, loving and protective. Our praise and worship should reflect our heartfelt thanks.

Question
Here Isaiah paints a beautiful picture of restoration. What does he tell us about the role of God in this? Refiner's fire
Tranquil haven
Here in chapter 4 is a vision of promised tranquillity, suspended between the threatening predictions about the judgement that is to come in chapters 3 and 5. Here is a promise that there is still hope for those who escape the ‘hot breath of fiery judgement’ (v 4, NLT).

Those who are left

Isaiah shows us a picture of the heavenly Jerusalem , future home to those whose names are written in the book of life (v 3b; see also Philippians 4:3). They are the ‘righteous’ who were not condemned along with those who ‘have brought disaster upon the mselves’ (Isaiah 3:11).

Isaiah speaks of the ‘survivors’ (v 2b), of ‘those who are left in Zion ’ (v 3a). These are God’s servants who have come through many trials and who allow the mselves to be cleansed by God’s ‘consuming fire’ (Hebrews 12:29).

Protection

God’s fire cleanses and protects us. The protective canopy of fire and smoke he provides for his holy city (vs 5,6) recalls how he led his people in the wilderness (see Exodus 13:21).

Despite his people’s rebellion, despite the fact that the y have broken his holy law, God loves his people – this ‘glorious land’ (v 5b, NLT) – passionately.

Who does he think he is?
Who do you think you are?
For a long while we didn’t pay much attention to genealogy. Now, the re is a surge of interest. Single mo the rs must now name the fa the r of the ir baby on the birth certificate. That will certainly help with filling in family trees!

Jesus’ family tree

One would imagine that Jesus had a perfect human family. But it’s not so. Among ancestors listed in Matthew 1:1–16 are Tamar, Rahab and Ruth, and, by implication, David’s wife Bathsheba. Jesus’ lineage includes stories of incest, prostitution, a foreign alliance, adultery and an unexpected teenage pregnancy.

Yet this is also the story of the Messiah – the ‘Branch of Jesse’ we hear about in Christmas readings (see Isaiah 11:1,2). Jesus’ family tree – the Tree of Jesse – is shown in stained glass windows sprouting from the recumbent figure of his ancestor Jesse, father of King David.

Jesus the Messiah
The birth of the Messiah had been foretold for generations: ‘“The days are coming”, declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch”’ (Jeremiah 23:5, see also 33:14 and 2 Samuel 7:12,13). Micah’s prophecy is quoted to Herod in answer to his query as to where the Messiah would be born: ‘… for out of you [ Bethlehem ] will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel ’ (Mat the w 2:6, quoting Micah 5:2).

Our Messiah

Jesus, the perfect one, both man and God, understands family baggage. It was the much-married Samaritan woman who said: ‘I know that Messiah’ (called Christ) ‘is coming.’ Jesus said to her: ‘I, the one speaking to you – I am he’ (John 4:25,26).

In the shadow.‘… over everything the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain’ (Isaiah 4:5,6).

Imagine a canopy above you right now. Maybe you are picturing a kind of parasol. Or perhaps it’s more like a sheet suspended over you. You can design the canopy however you wish. The more vivid, the better.

God has given us this picture to teach us about his love and care for us:

It is God sheltering you, when situations get too hot to handle, when tempers get heated, when the pressure is on, when problems rain down on you, when relationships get stormy…

So let’s use it.

Go on a journey in your imagination to some of the different places you expect to be in the next few days. Notice who and what is around you. Then in each situation see that the canopy of God is over you. Think what difference this makes.

After a while, just hold these words in God’s presence:

protection shelter shade hiding place

End your prayer by repeating these words a few times:

‘Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty’ (Psalm 91:1).

Chili and slaw recipes for hot dogs

hot dog chili

2 lb ground beef
1 cup chopped onion (real small)
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. Garlic pressed
32 ounce jar tomatoe sauce
1 Tbsp. chili powder
2 teas. salt
2 teas. accent (found in a tiny red and white salt like container in spice section)

brown ground beef, onion and garlic a little before you add the rest, cook on medium heat just like you would spaghetti sauce. This makes a lot but it is really good to freeze for later.

Cole Slaw

small cabbage shredded
1/2 cup miracle whip
1 teas. dill pickle juice
1 teas. celery salt
1 or 2 teas. mustard

mix last 4 ingredients together to make a dressing, if you want it more yellow add more mustard, if its too sweet add a little more pickle juice and if it is too vinegar tasting add a little sugar to it. Start stirring it into the cabbage until you get it all covered. If you see you don't have enough of the dressing make a little more. I never use a recipe for this I just guess, you really can't mess it up.

This is really good with a grilled oscar meyer hot dog, and if you really want to get fancy get the English style buns and butter and toast them. Okay I am getting hungry again.

Enjoy!
